Using Cuttle with xTool Studio
Make a Personalized Ornament with Cuttle and xTool Studio
1. Personalize in Cuttle
- Open the Dog Bone Ornament template
- Click Customize this template
- Personalize your name and other options
- Click Download SVG
This design has 3 different operations that we will assign in xTool Studio: Engrave for the year and the paw, Score for the lines between letters, and Cut to cut the final pieces from our material.
2. Import to xTool Studio
- Go to File > Import
- Select the SVG file you downloaded from Cuttle
3. Configure settings
To assign the engraving, scoring, and cutting operations, see the different colors on the bottom left, or click the Layer and object list icon.
- Go to the Material menu and choose your material
- Set the Engrave, Score, and Cut operations
- See xTool’s suggested settings for each operation, and select one based on the previews
4. Cut both layers
This ornament has 2 layers. Ungroup the two layers first, and then:
- Move the layer you don’t want to cut outside the work area
- Print the first layer and move it outside the work area once complete
- Bring the second layer into the work area, swap materials and print the second layer
5. Assemble
- Attach double sided glue behind first layer (Federico uses DualTite Adhesive - use code CUTTLE10 for 10% off)
- Remove protective film, align back layer, and gently press to attach
- Tie a loop through the hole with about 12 inches of string
Your ornament is ready to hang ✨
How to score with xTool Studio
- Import your Cuttle SVG cut file by going to the X menu > File > Import Image
- xTool Studio will place every color from your design as a separate layer.
- Start by selecting the type of material you would to use.
- Open the Layer and Object List by clicking on the icon on the bottom left corner, here you can select operations by layer color
You can confirm the operations are correct by looking at the right hand panel, blue lines should be scores and red lines should be cuts.
