Mask

The Mask modifier allows you to use any shape as a mask for any contents, even open paths. The contents will be clipped so that only the portions within the mask remain.

This is often useful for creating a pattern that you’d like to score or pen plot within some masking shape.

How to use it

Place your mask as the top-most shape, arrange all other shapes beneath it. In this example we have a set of repeated lines and a Circle on top of that to use as a mask.

Select everything, then go to Modify > Mask.

The lines are now masked and can be sent to the laser, pen plotter, or any other digital fabrication workflow. Unlike other programs, where the “mask” or “clip path” features are purely visual, Cuttle’s Mask modifier is a true vector mask.

Options

  • Invert Mask - When checked, only the contents outside the mask will be kept
  • Keep Mask - When checked the masking shape will be kept
