What about “remixes” of existing templates?

When someone clicks “Copy this Project” to create a remix of a template, note that for royalty purposes any download of the remix will credit the original template.

That is, if you see the “remix” notice in the header, then royalty credits will go to the original template.

What is the license on templates released as Pro?

It’s the same as the license for official Cuttle Pro templates. Cuttle Pro subscribers get a commercial license to sell physical items, but not to sell or give away digital designs (like SVGs) derived from the templates.

Who owns the designs I publish?

You retain all IP for your designs.

Do my designs need to be exclusive to Cuttle?

No. For example, you can release a personalizable template on Cuttle Pro and also sell the “blank with instructions” as a static SVG on your Etsy store.

Do I need to be a member of Cuttle Pro to be a Cuttle Creator?

In general, yes. You will need Cuttle Pro in order use all the features of the Cuttle Editor and make unlimited projects. That said, if you cancel your Cuttle Pro subscription and revert to the free tier, you will still earn royalties from templates you published in the past, you just will not be able to create and publish new templates.

Should variations be separate templates or a single template with options?

Use separate templates if the main character in the template is changing (eg a tyrannosaurus vs a triceratops). If the main character is the same — but with variations like a bow in its hair, treatment of the name (engraved vs layered), or different patterns in the background — then use a single template with options.

Borderline: You can use your judgement in cases like choosing a sport or a flower. If choosing the sport (hockey vs football) results in a very different shape or design, then it’s generally better to have separate templates. If it’s basically the same design but you’re just choosing an icon, then a single template with options is better.

Use the Visible modifier is when you want elements in a template to be toggled on and off individually and the Switcher when you want the user to select a single option from a list.
