Create your own under-the-sea treasure chest! This playful design includes a seashell-themed chest that can be colored and filled with treasures like money, gems, and seashells. A tiny key and treasure map are also included for extra adventure and detail.
Instructions:
Color the pieces first.
After cutting, color or paint the treasure chest before assembly, if desired. It is usually easier to color the engraved/scored details before the layers are glued together.Build the treasure chest.
Glue or adhere the thicker frame layer(s) on top of the base piece. Two frame layers are included, but you may cut more or fewer depending on your material thickness and how much space you want inside the chest.Add the lid insert layer.
Once the frame layers are dry, glue or adhere the thinner frame layer with the chest top to the frames. This thinner layer creates the inset area where the lower portion of the treasure chest will sit.Attach the scallop shell lock.
Glue the scallop shell lock to the front of the treasure chest lid, using the score lines as a guide for placement. This piece also makes it easy to lift the lid.Color the treasures.
Finally, color or paint the shells, gems, money, key and map with paint markers, acrylic paint, colored pencils, or your preferred coloring supplies.Place the treasures inside.
Add the finished treasures to the chest, then place the lid into the inset frame. Use the scallop shell lock to lift the lid and reveal the treasure inside.
