No-Sew Valet Tray

This template creates a sturdy, no-sew felt tray. The tray is formed by pulling interlocking tabs through slots, eliminating the need for stitching or adhesives. This makes for a clean, minimalist design with a durable, high-quality finish.

Materials:

  • Hard merino wool felt (at least 2mm thick)

  • Needle-nose pliers (for assembly)

Here is the wool felt that I used. I have had good luck with this one. I bought another color from the same vendor, but it was a blend and was not stiff enough. Leather would also work.

Design & Construction:

  1. Material Selection: Choose a dense, hard merino wool felt with a minimum thickness of 2mm. This provides the necessary rigidity for the tray to hold its shape.

  2. Cutting Process: Use Cuttle to design and cut the felt precisely, ensuring that the slots and tabs align properly.

  3. Scoring (optional): Lightly score the base edges to create easier, more precise folds.

  4. Assembly:

    • Use needle-nose pliers to pull the tabs through the slots at each corner.

    • Ensure that each tab is fully secured and sits flush within the slot to maintain a clean look.

    • Gently adjust the folds to create smooth, even corners.
