This project creates a modular Hanging Item Display for showcasing lightweight items such as keychains, ornaments, or tags. The display includes a slotted backboard and interchangeable hangers that fit into precision-cut slots. The design is fully parametric, letting you adjust size, spacing, and fit for your material thickness.

Perfect for event tables, craft shows, or retail setups, this display can be configured for different hanger layouts or staggered patterns. Each hanger locks into the backboard with tabs that can be removed or permanently secured depending on your needs.

Instructions

  1. Set Material Thickness
    Choose your material thickness (for example, 0.125 in or 3 mm) and enter the kerf value for your laser cutter. This ensures the tabs and slots fit tightly.

  2. Adjust Display Dimensions
    Use the width and height parameters to control the overall size of the backboard. The topRadius rounds the upper corners for a smooth finish.

  3. Configure the Hangers
    Open the Hanger section to customize the number and spacing of hangers.

    • Check stagger to alternate the hangers for a stepped layout.

    • Adjust the hangerLength and hangerHeight to fit your items.

    • Fine-tune the horizontal and vertical spacing to create the right amount of separation.

  4. Check the Fit
    Before cutting the full display, test your kerf and fit using the included Test Fitter file. Once you confirm the correct settings, cut the full version.

Test Fitter (Kerf Calibration)

Before cutting the full design, use the included Test Fitter file to fine-tune your kerf settings and confirm a proper tab-to-slot fit. This prevents wasted material and ensures tight joints.

How to Use

  1. Set your material thickness and kerf in the parameters.

  2. Cut the Test Fitter SVG on a small piece of the same material you’ll use for the final display.

  3. Insert the hanger tab into the slot:

    • If it’s too loose, slightly reduce the kerf (for example, from 0.005 in to 0.004 in).

    • If it’s too tight, increase the kerf (for example, from 0.005 in to 0.006 in).

  4. Repeat until the hook tab feels snug and secure.

A snug fit should hold the hanger firmly without glue but still allow it to be removed with light pressure.
