Hi Helen, you need to get an exact measurement of the material you are using. You can do that with digital calipers. After getting your material thickness measurement you input that into the template. Second, you need to update the kerf. If you do'nt know what kerf is, there are a ton of videos on youtube that help you understand what it is and easily figure out what your lasers kerf is. There is a tester above that you can cut while figuring it out to get an optimal fit before cutting the full file!
